My daughter and son-in-law have a Jenn-Air model SVD48600 range that was in the house when they got it. The user manual seems to have disappeared, but they did have it before and followed the directions to start the self-cleaning of the oven and it will not start. It just resets and gives no codes. The door does not lock. Nothing happens.
Any ideas to trouble shoot this or instructions on what we may be doing wrong?

Your Jenn-Air self-cleaning oven gets incredibly hot during the cleaning cycle. While most ovens top out at 500 degrees of baking temperature, when it's set to self-clean, you're likely to discover temperatures of around 1000 degrees instead. At least, if you could open the oven, you would. But to keep small children and unwary users from horrendous burns, Jenn-Air and other self-cleaning-oven manufacturers install locks on their ovens. Regardless of the brand or model, or even the type of lock used, they all work essentially the same. Set the controls and step back to let your oven do its work. Once it's done, unlock it to clean the interior.

Watch for the oven's clean indicator light to change from lit to unlit. Once you set your oven to clean, this light goes on and remains on until the cleaning cycle is complete. As long as it is on, you cannot unlock and open your Jenn-Air stove. Your stove must be out of the self-cleaning cycle to open, no matter what the circumstances.
2
Look at the lock indicator light on your Jenn-Air. This glows once the oven door lock engages for the clean cycle (which occurs when the oven reaches 550 degrees, according to Jenn-Air). After the cleaning cycle is complete, the clean indicator light will go out but the lock indicator will remain lit another 45 minutes to an hour. During this additional time, the oven is cooling down. The lock indicator light will only go out once the temperature is again under 550 degrees.
3
Pull the door lock lever to the left once your Jenn-Air indicates it is cool enough to open. On some models, the lock is automatic instead. In that case, you simply open the door to unlock it and proceed as desired.
4
Unlock the door before the lock indicator light comes on by pulling the lever -- if your oven is equipped with one -- to the left. Next, turn the cycle settings -- whether buttons or dials -- from clean to off. Push the cancel button twice. Open the oven door to unlock it and proceed as desired.

Press your oven's cancel button twice but leave the controls in the clean cycle settings to unlock the door after the lock indicator light comes on. Wait until the oven cools enough to allow the lock indicator light to go out -- the amount of time depends on how hot the oven got -- then shift the door lock lever to the left, if present, before opening the oven door. Turn off the cleaning settings after the Jenn-Air oven's door is open.
Tip
- A malfunctioning self-cleaning oven that refuses to unlock may reset if you turn off the electrical breaker that supplies it power, wait 5 or 10 minutes, then turn it on again. Another way to get a problem oven open is to reset the cleaning cycle and wait to see if it releases after the next round. If all else fails, call a service technician. A bent and damaged lock system may fail to open without professional help.
